Velma Louise Unsworth Dial
Velma Louise Unsworth Dial, 83, passed away Wednesday, July
24, 2002, peacefully at home in Salt Lake City.
Born January 8, 1919 to David Unsworth and Florence Louisa
Mitchell in Salt Lake City. Married Edwin Lee Dial April 7, 1943 in the Salt
Lake Temple.
Graduated from West High School 1936, and completed her
education by raising nine children.
Best known outside of her home for her musical ability. She
began playing the piano at a young age, accompanying for her friends, school and
church events from age 12. She accompanied many vocalists and instrumentalists
as well as soloing on the piano and organ.
Faithful lifetime member of the LDS church and served in
many callings.
Other talents include crocheting and knitting for family
and sharing these talents with others. She knitted and donated hundreds of hats
for newborns to local hospitals.
Happily married for 59 years. Her main interest was her
family, and she loved the annual family camp out-her special presence will be
missed. Family gatherings were plentiful and well attended. The success of
marriage isn't gauged by the number of years, but rather the happiness it
produces.
Survived by husband, Ed, and children Larry (Cathye),
Sharon (Roger) Carrier, E. Lynn (LaNett), Louise (Bob) Benzon, Glen (Vicki),
Verna (Terry) Broadbent, Fay (Neil) Weight, Lee (Julie), Wayne (Cydnie), and
step-son Tom (Gail). 43 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents and sister, Leone U. Tanner.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 27,
2002, at Riverside Stake Center, 1148 West 500 North, Salt Lake City. Friends
may call Friday, July 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260
East South Temple, Salt Lake City, and 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the ward
prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Primary
Children's Medical Center or charity of your choice.
